Our Story

The Seattle Neighborhood Action Coalition was born on November 9th, in the cold and dark hours of early morning following the 2016 presidential election.

It was born from a final realization that the political system that claims to speak for and protect us has failed, and has been failing for far too long.

It was born from the realization that no one is coming to save us – that we are the ones we have been waiting for, and that if we are to survive, we can’t wait any longer. For the sake of each other, our children, our species – for the sake of life on Earth – and for our own sakes too: We can’t wait.

It was born when friends and neighbors from a wide array of communities and walks of life came together to ask ourselves a very big question: “What do we do now?”

We began by breaking the silence in Seattle by hosting a community gathering, where over 500 neighbors comforted each other, and shared their fierce hearts of compassion, rage and resistance.

Next, we started a conversation when hundreds of people and activist organizations came to share space and begin the work of forming Neighborhood Action Councils to support residents of our city and begin building our collective power.

We started the conversation – but we need you to join us in this work. All of us. Together.

This is our power. This is our movement. This is our city.

What will we do with it?
